Hades has called upon the Disney Villains to steal magic crystal shards and take over the Magic Kingdom! Join forces with Merlin in an interactive (and free) game “Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom.”
Tucked away in the Main Street USA Firehouse, team up to help Merlin on his quest to protect the Magic Kingdom. Sign-up with one of the cast members and use a training portal before you start on your quest. You can also request a map with all of the portal locations spread across the magic kingdom (with the exception of Tomorrow Land.) Each day in the park, every sorcerer that teams up to help Merlin receives a pack of 5 five random cards to help you with your quest. Each card has a character and set of magic spells to help you defeat Hades and his cast of villains.
My son, daughter, and I decided to band together and help the Magic Kingdom. Starting early in the morning, we stopped by the Firehouse, located next to Town Hall, picked up our first set of cards, and started our quest. There are five interactive portals in each area of the Magic Kingdom, and after you finished at one portal, the game will direct you to you next portal. Throughout the morning, we teamed up to defeat the villains one by one. We decided to bypass the queues for rides and focused only at the quest at hand. No rides, no character meet and greets, just one portal after another.
I won’t lie. If you want to defeat the game, it’s going to take time, a lot of time. We started our quest at around 9 am and finished a little after 2 pm. There are 9 villains and Hades to defeat and sometimes you will have to wait your turn at a portal. I will say that the portals are camouflaged very well. Hidden in windows and around corners, you really wouldn’t notice them if you aren’t playing the game. There were several times that passersby, stopped, stared, and asked questions. Also, each team has a different story line to follow. So, if you have to wait your turn, you won’t be watching a part of the quest that you are about to complete.
It can get a little mundane in the middle, but the game is fun. Not only is the game itself fun, but we also spent an additional hour or two trading cards. Collecting pins is fun, but it can also be a little pricy to get started. Collecting and trading the cards is totally free. Now yes, you can go out on your own and buy packs of cards on the internet or at the Emporium on Main Street USA, but you don’t have to. You can collect all of the cards by simply stopping at the Main Street Firehouse or trading with another sorcerer. Ok, so there are a few “special” cards that are only handed out at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and MICKEY’S Very Merry Christmas Party. These cards are branded with the name of the party and are pretty rare to find but you can still trade these with other sorcerers. Also there are some very rare cards that are included in a very small quantity of free decks. These “lightning” cards are prized by collectors and they will typically only trade for other “lightning” cards. There are 70 cards in total (not including the special cards handed out at the parties.) We ended up having more fun finding and collecting the cards than we did playing the game.
Due to the length of the game, I do not recommend this for first time visitors to the Magic Kingdom. There are a lot of things to do and experience while at Disney World and this will take the better part of the day.
This little know game will definitely keep you busy, and along with pin trading, it’s a great collectable and souvenir to bring back from your visit to the Magic Kingdom. So stop by the Firehouse and signup to help Merlin protect the Magic Kingdom!
