Prepare to be Scared at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios

It's 3 months to Halloween and for many when August hits, it's spooky season! Looking for a real scare this Halloween? Then you need to head to Universal Studios.

At both Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood you can experience haunted houses, scare zones and live shows at Halloween Horror Nights. HHN, as it's nicknamed is a separately ticketed event that takes place each weekend in September and October. Unlike Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at the Magic Kingdom and Oogie Boogie Bash at Disneyland, HHN is geared towards adults and teens. It is not recommend for children under the age of 13 or the faint at heart. Another difference is costumes and masks are not allowed.

The event runs from September 2nd thru October 31st in Orlando and September 8th to October 31st in Hollywood. It starts at 6:30pm and runs until either 1am or 2am. Tickets run between $75 and $104 per person depending on the date. There are a few additional add on's you can purchase;

  • Halloween Horror Nights Express Pass which starts at $109.99 plus tax per person. This works just like the theme park Express Pass where you can skip the regular lines one time at each haunted house plus at any participating attractions.

  • Halloween Horror Nights Behind-the-Screams: Unmasking the Horror Tour is a daytime VIP tour for a lights on look at the haunted houses. You can choose between a 3 or 6 hour tour. Rates start at $79.99 per person plus tax.

  • Halloween Horror Nights R.I.P. Tour is a guided VIP tour and priority entry to the haunted houses. Starts at $279.99 per person plus tax.

So far they have revealed the following haunted houses for this years event;

  • The Weeknd: After Hours Nightmare

  • The Horrors of Blumhouse

  • Halloween

  • Universal Monsters; Legends Collide

There are also 5 scare zones outside the haunted houses, 2 live shows, themed food and drinks and merchandise for sale. Select attractions are also open during the even such as Hollywood Rip Ride RockIt, Revenge of the Mummy and Harry Potter Escape to Gringotts. It's important to note that on event nights Universal Studios will close early for regular guests, usually around 5pm. That's another reason why having a park-to-park ticket is so important so you can spend the rest of the night at Islands of Adventure.

If you are a guest at a Universal Orlando resort hotel you can take advantage of early entry or Stay and Scream. You'll need a regular theme park admission as well and you can enter houses before the event officially begins. The lines can be long or take 45 minutes to an hour per house. If you only have one night and want to get a lot in I'd recommend purchasing the Express Pass or choose 4-5 houses you really want to go thru. The other option is to attend a couple nights! The live shows are also not to miss so you'll want plenty of time to take in every gory detail!

Tickets are on sale now!
